Abstract
Taha Jabir al-Alwani’s article discusses the Arabic language and its Islamic depth, and the need to work on finding the correct means to unite the people of the Arabic language, bringing them together again, and utilizing the Arabic language in the achievement of this unity in all areas. The article discusses this topic according to two frameworks: the Qur'an and the Arabic language, and the distinction between the understanding of ummī and ummiyyīn. It maintains that it is against the sanctity of the Qur'an to equate its inimitable linguistic features with the usage of the Arabic language by Arabic speakers; however, reference may be made to the classical literary Arabic of the Arabs to further understand the language of the Qur’an.
