Abstract

Imad Al-Din Khalil analyzes the problem of modernity and heritage, and the duality of form and content, and addresses the absence of methodology and lack of balance in the Islamic literary scene. He concludes with a call for proper planning, proposing nine points that pertain to: the position towards Western literature; fiqh guidelines and standards; balance in literary components in regards to critique, history, theorizing, and diversity; prioritization; interaction with literatures of other languages; dialogue with the heritage of Arab literature; dialogue among those involved in Islamic literature; widening the scope in all directions so long as it abides by Shariʿah standards; and finally, attention to the fields of academia and media so as not to be culturally isolated.
