Abstract
Abdul Rahman Hillali’s study attempts to understand the methodology of the final Divine message in light of the methodologies of previous messages, and indicants for the finality of prophethood in religious history. His approach focuses on three elements: (1) The general characteristics of the message, with a focus on Islamic tawḥīd (Oneness of God) and the universality of the message; (2) The methodology of the message and the seal of messages, with a focus on the methodology employed by prophets in daʿwah or the propagation of religion; and (3) Indicants for the finality of prophethood including the completion of religion that prophets relayed, building a community of nations (Ummah) and ridding of discriminatory nations, Islam’s abolishment of absolute religious authority and priesthood, and the notion of Muslims being witnesses to humankind.
