Abstract
Muhammad Gul’s article is an analytical study of Ibn Khaldūn’s theological (kalām) thought, through a historical methodology that traces theological thought before Ibn Khaldūn and during his time. It focuses on the definition of kalām, its methodology and function, the relationship of kalām with Sufism, and the role of reason in regards to knowledge. It then discusses metaphysics, the relationship of self with attributes, prophecy, and Muslim leadership (imāmah) and how it relates to the science of kalām.
