Abstract

Irfan Abdul Hamid Fattah presents the main ideas related to pre-methodology in order to establish a philosophy of harnessing (taskhīr) nature and harmonizing with it in contrast with the philosophy of “conflict with nature” and overcoming the opposing duality that governs thought and reason in the material man-made civilization. His article proceeds with a detailed definition of the meaning of “Islamization” and concludes that the term expresses an ambitious intellectual methodology in civilizational acculturation.  He explains what is meant by the term “Islamization of knowledge” and how it is subjected to doctrinal supervision, critique, analysis, and reinterpretation and restructuring to concord with ʿaqīdah (doctrinal belief) and the methodology of the Qur’an in formulating the Ummah.  He then explains the meaning of the concepts of wasaṭiyyah (moderation) and akhlāq (morality) according to the understanding of prominent Muslim intellectuals.
