Abstract
Idris Yuanu’s article treats the principles of maqāṣid in the thought of Shaykh Aḥmad Zarrūq, doing so by touching upon Zarrūq’s era (9th/15th century), lifetime, writings, and methodological approach. It discusses maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah (obectives of Shariʿah) in Sufi discourse by addressing several topics including worship and servitude, Shariʿah rulings, and the maqāṣid of the mukallaf (religiously responsible or accountable person). The article captures Zarrūq’s thought regarding the specifics and generalities of Sufism, his Sufi and social critique, and his Sufi-fiqh thought.
