Abstract
Irfan Abdul-Hamid’s article contends that mysticism is becoming global; not confined to a homeland or a timeframe. Yet, it is difficult to develop a comprehensive definition of mysticism for several reasons. Abdul-Hamid discusses facets of derivation of mysticism and presents general examples for the mystic experience; every model having its own maxims and name. His article then addresses general common characteristics of the mystic experience, and the methodology used by those who study the experience, to conclude that two methodologies merge in observing the phenomenon. It then attempts to find similarities between different mystic experiences across religions.
