Abstract
Ziad al-Daghameen’s article discusses the issue of developing (ʿimār) the world as the first basic mission of human beings, the vicegerents on earth, and its crucial necessity for human life; telling us that developing the earth is a manifestation of worshipping God Almighty. The article poses the following questions: What is the world? What is the purpose of its creation? What is its relationship with humanity? How is the process of ʿimār achieved, and what are its most important manifestations? The answers to these emerge in a discussion of the following themes: the concept of ʿimār of the world in light of revealed texts (including the concept of ʿimār and its importance; the concept of “world” and its relationship with humanity; the dangers of focusing on materiality; the conditions of ʿimār; Divine universal laws (Sunnan) and utilizing and harnessing them (taskhīr); and manifestations of ʿimār).
