Abstract

Ayman’s Saleh’s article addresses terminological overlapping in the science of uṣūl al-fiqh (principles of jurisprudence), as represented in two issues: the large number of synonyms, and frequency of terminological association. Such overlapping was a major cause for the emergence of disputes on terms in many uṣūlī issues, causing controversy and fierce disagreement; wherein some would state a term with a desired meaning, while others understood a different meaning. The article attempts to resolve the overlap of terminology; that having been an issue which characterized uṣūl al-fiqh as a science of controversy and disputation.
