Abstract
Ibrahim Abdul-Rahman Rajab’s study aims to follow the general trends of efforts to Islamize social sciences. He begins with a general historical overview. He explains the concept and term “Islamization,” and the varying views surrounding it. Moreover, he explains what is meant by an Islamic ta’ṣīl (a framework established upon referral to principal Islamic sources) of the social sciences and the methodology adopted to undertake it, and the methodological procedures of ta’ṣīl and the different research studies that set the foundations for the concept of “Islamization,” such as the researches that discuss the Islamic vision towards human beings, society, and existence, indexing the Qur’anic verses and hadiths on the topic, and reviewing books from Islamic heritage to extract methodologies of “Islamization.” Rajab’s study then examines the literature treating methodological reform of the Shariʿah sciences, and the need to build a new approach to engaging with the Qur’an and Sunnah.
