Abstract

Abu Mounir Arik Winkle’s article focuses on the core of the crisis in the Western civilizational project, and the absence of meaning and purpose and the loss of direction in the Western model. It questions the authenticity of the alternative Islamic project, expressing fears of it becoming a mere imitation of the Western project, despite the critical premises one observes in Muslim intellectuals’ dealing with the West. His article explains the theoretical, model, and epistemological shifts in Western thought by presenting a critical overview of the concept of modernity and post-modernity, and how the post-modern world impacted political thought and political theory. It concludes with an overview of the alienation experienced by Muslims and how they can catch up to civilization.
