The Question of Values in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Technology as a Means of Transcending the Smart Machine

Abstract

This article examines artificial intelligence (AI) from a value-oriented perspective, emphasizing the crucial role of ethical values in guiding human and technological developments. It aims to integrate intelligent machines with moral principles to establish a moral framework that guides both human behavior and machine operation in the AI era. The article reviews relevant literature, individual contributions, and key ethical and legal frameworks (Arab and international) that have shaped AI ethics. Furthermore, it explores embedding human ethics into intelligent machines through what the researcher terms “ethical technology,” resulting in a more ethically aligned AI and mitigating potential adverse effects on humanity in the expanding digital landscape. The study concludes that developing ethical technology that integrates technical proficiency with ethical considerations ensures optimal AI efficiency, maximizes its benefits, and safeguards humans from potential harm.
