Abstract
Khalid al-Zuʿbi’s article inquires into how Ibn Khaldūn, through one book (his Muqadimmah) and in a short period of five months, managed to establish the foundations for new sciences and existing sciences, and the methodology he used to do so, including its distinguishing features. His response comes in the following themes: the pragmatic character of Ibn Khaldūn; the nature of his intellectual production; what motivated his activities and orientations; his political and scientific orientations; and the Khaldūnian methodology. His article concludes by considering fundamental elements to Ibn Khaldūn’s accomplishments including his driving force, extensive experience, cultural and intellectual knowledge, and intuition.
