Abstract

The issue of “terminology” is highly important because of the interdependence of the term on its formulation, its semantic baggage in the social and civilization context in which it is formed, and its subject to the formulation of the frame of reference that guide the process of formulation. The problematic issue emerges in the case when the term moves to social and civilizational fields that proceed from a different frame of reference. Sayed Abdul Razzaq’s article addresses this issue within the following themes: a discussion on the term iltizām (pietistic adherence) in contemporary critique; terminology in its doctrinal and civilizational context; Islamic ta’ṣīl (a framework established upon referral to principal Islamic sources) of the term; and coating of the term and the mixing of concept. It concludes with a call to the scientific necessities of the term iltizām in the field of critique.
